I'm guessing, as I don't use Firefox.
Sounds to me as if possibly one of your security programs is blocking it,
probably something which protects against BHO's. Are you running
Winpatrol,, ZoneAlarm Pro, Nortons, or anything of that nature?
It's always important to state which OS you are running. eg if Vista---have
you turned off UAC (User Access Control)?
This prevents you from installing new software, though you should be seeing
warning messages if that is the case.
Try disconnecting your phone line if on broadband, reboot into Safe Mode,
and install from Safe Mode. This should disable any protection software, in
case that's the problem.
Reboot and see what happens.
I'd suggest you make a System Restore backup point first before carrying
out this procedure, in case the installation throws everything out of gear.
