TSGL: MS SP1 for Vista--Anyone Else Having Problems??

I have installed SP1 on 5 separate machines without a problem of any kind.
None of those machines ran Zone Alarm, so I haven't had any experience with
that problem. I suggest you may want to go to MS's firewall already
installed on all Vista machines, or perhaps download and use the Comodo
Firewall, which a whole lot of people seem to like.

Like Zone Alarm, I have had no experience with Linksys. I tend to recommend
and use Netgear, though I have heard good thinks about Linksys. I don't
recommend you change routers if yours works satisfactorily, but you might
want to check with Linksys to determine if they have a software update to
fix any SP1 problem.

And yes, I do recommend you run SP1 when you can get it to work with your
router.

Subject: TSGL: MS SP1 for Vista--Anyone Else Having Problems??

Service Pak 1 for Vista came out of Beta Tuesday and came up on my
desktop pc as a Windows Update item this a.m., so I just finished
downloading it--takes over an hour to download and install. When it
finished and re-booted, I discovered that
1) my ZoneAlarm Free firewall no longer works because of
"incompatibility problems". I had read that the Zone Alarm Internet
Security Suite would not work with SP1 but had not heard that even the
standalone basic Zone Alarm firewall doesn't work either.

2) I had no Internet connection. Apparently there is a driver
incompatibility with the LinkSys wireless router I use for the wireless
connection to my laptop (which I am using of course to send this
email). With the usual gobblygook error message from MS, I checked to
make sure the network boxes are properly checked per the MS instruction
and they are. Still doesn't work. FWIW--my desktop running Vista is
less than six months old, and the LinkSys router is about a year old.

So now I am uninstalling the SP1 Pak. It will take over an hour to do
that and I can only hope that the pc boots up properly after doing so.
Wish me luck. I'll try System Restore I suppose if it doesn't.

Does anyone know what the impact will be of NOT installing Vista SP1??
I haven't read anything about that.

No wonder so many people are so disgusted with MS. Wouldn't you think
that with the large number of LinkSys wireless routers out there that MS
would have identified a potential problem in SP1 during all the beta
testing that was done and offer a better solution?? But then again, I
remember the mess that many people had with the XP SP2 update a few
years back.

OK, I got this off my chest, back to checking on the uninstall.
