TSGL: decoder

hi all,
  I'm still workin' on this HP for my daughter. Boy, am I havin' fun.
  WinXP.  HP Pavilion. I have the 80GIG drive workin' now.
  Tried to play a DVD.  Media player said it had a missing compatible
  DVD decoder.  So I uninstalled the device and reinstalled.  Same thing.
  So I downloaded Media Player 11 from MS and installed it.  Run and
  same thing: no compatible DVD decoder.  
  Any suggestions on what to do now?
