Chuck,
a few thoughts on this:
- remove the mouse and let it reinstall during bootup (if you haven't done
so already), reboot and check
- try booting in protected mode - if it doesn't change the mouse settings
there, it could be any of the programs/utilities/drivers that are starting
during or immediately after boot.
- using any of the startup control utilities out there, remove all
unnecessary programs from autostart, then reboot and if the mouse is fine,
try to add them to startup again one after another.
Not sure whether this may help ...
