TSGL: AVG 7.5

My AVG 7.5 continues to update automatically every day and in fact did so as
I was reading the two previous posts below. I am still using 98SE and so
cannot upgrade to AVG 8.0 free. The only times I have experienced the
outdated colour on my AVG have been when the daily update requires a reboot
and I choose to delay the reboot until I have finished something else. I
rarely do this, usually rebooting immediately.
My husband uses XP SP2 and upgraded to 8.0 free soon after its release.
When using 7.5 he would sometimes see the black AVG icon, not with an
out-of-date message but with one saying the resident shield was not loaded.
Rebooting always corrected the situation.
I just did a bit of searching and found that some users are receiving
pop-ups that 7.5 will not be supported after 31st May. Not all have
received the pop-ups, and one user commented: "Perhaps AVG Technologies are
loading it onto certain servers in sequence."
Another user posted, "I wonder how Grisoft intends to support Windows 98/ME
until August if updates are to stop in May."
The thread is at
http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?1,123278,backpage=,sv= (including
a link to http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm5/LarkB_album/AVG.jpg, where
one of the forum members uploaded the announcement he had received).
This does not explain your problem but does indicate that 7.5 is apparently
ending. When reading this I thought it might be possible to go to a link
and manually update 7.5 (as I can do with Ad-Aware SE Personal, which no
longer updates automatically). I have NOT searched the Grisoft site or
elsewhere to see if this will be possible.
At http://www.grisoft.com/us.download-update one reads: "Notice for AVG 7.5
users. The following downloads are for our new version AVG 8.0 .... If you
are using AVG 7.5, please click .. to get downloads for your AVG 7.5
product."
I don't know yet whether I'll look further for the possibility of a manual
update method or discontinue using AVG and go to another anti-virus program.
Probably the latter as I use the manual Ad-Aware method irregularly but
would want a disciplined, regular anti-virus update, automatic or manual.

There is a new version 8.0 - both in paid and free editions. To get the 8.0
Free Edition check here:

My AVG 7.5 icon is showing that it is out of date. I click to update and
the process seems to go ok, and says that I have updated. But afterward the
icon remains in the outdated color and continues to say it is out of date.
Also, they seem to be pushing the new paid 8.0 version. Any ideas what is
going on here?
Mike
