TSGL: Firefox annoyances--is there an answer?

Don,

FF is much better than your experience would indicate. Stick with it.

If you visit the FF Add-On (also called Extensions) site _USING FF_, you
should just click the big green box that says Add to Firefox to install
it. You should see a progress box and the DL/install (it's all one
process) should take only a few seconds. You do have to restart FF (not
Windows) to actually make most Add-On's effective. Most Add-On's will
add an entry in the Tools menu that gives you access to any options they
might have.

There is a great variance in the quality of the Add-On's. Read the
comments and visit the authors site before deciding. Seek advice from
long time users on which are useful and reliable.

Each time you start FF it silently checks to see if there are new
versions of your Add-On's and will notify you if there are. You will be
given an opportunity to DL the new version before FF actually starts.
After DLing the new version (taking only a few seconds) FF will continue
the start up process and open as normal with the new version of the
Add-On effective. Very handy and efficient.

The downside - when a new version (usually just the major revisions) of
FF comes out it will notify you at start up that some of your Add-On's
are incompatible with the new version and disable them. It usually takes
a while for the Add-On author to get on the stick and update them. Some
are very fast, some, eh.... not so much.

Hang in there Don, we'll make you a FF fan yet.
