Ok, I installed the Tabmix addon as you said. Then closed and re-opened
Firefox.

It's set to open new links in tabs. But no, Firefox still stubbornly
refuses to do tabbed browsing when left-clicking. I still have to go back
and forth one page at a time using the back button when googling, for example.

I tried centre-clicking links as H Davis has suggested, and that produces
tabbed browsing. I suppose I could get used to centre-clicking links,
though it feels a bit strange at first. I guess I can learn to live with that.

Is that what everyone else does?

Meantime, the tab bar has gone back to the top again.

Thanks to H Davis for his tips on bookmarking etc. But I still find
bookmarking rather clumsy in Firefox. I can get a folder into the links
bar, but can't get it to open as a folder---the cascading form is too
inconvenient. I checked out the bookmark addons, but nothing much useful there.

For example, let's say I have a bookmarks folder named "Techsites" in IE
Favourites containing 50 links.

With Maxthon, I can open that (or any other folder) with one click on the
numeric keypad, then open any link from there. I'd like to do the same in
FF, though I'm not yet ready to make FF my default browser.

Could I make a duplicate of that folder, called say "FFTechsites" such that
its links open by default in FF instead of my default browser Maxthon?
Changing all the file associations individually would be most tedious.
Changing them globally would effectively make FF the default browser.

Maybe one day I'll be as enthusiastic as you guys when I get around its bugs.

I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun exploring all the addons. (I've already
been through all that with Maxthon).

Now solved 2.5 problems out of 3, thanks to you guys. But there'll be more,
so don't go to sleep just yet.
