maybe your Virtual Memory has been limited.

Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance, Settings, Advanced,
Change.

Change your virtual memory settings to a "system managed size"

Click "Set" then "OK"

Have a look here...

I think if you are using Premiere, you really should have as much RAM as you
can afford. Make sure you have lots of free Hard Drive Space too.

Lum,

Looks like the others may not have an answer for you, and I, too, cannot
give you a specific answer.

However, since I knew nothing about Premier 6.5, I did a little research and
found that it was an expensive Adobe application for editing video and other
purposes. Adobe no longer supports it (probably because of the horrible
reviews on it tbat I saw), and because of problems like your friend has.
Frankly, from what I read of Premier, your friend may be better off using
another software, but since I don't know his needs and what is available,
Premier may be necessary.

That said, I found no solutions for the problem. What I did find was a
Microsoft webpage that indicated that Premier 6.5 is compatible with XP
Service Pack 2. So I do have a suggestion that may work, though it will be a
pain in the bottom ... Uninstall Premier. Remove all updates including SP2.
Reinstall SP2. Reinstall Premier. Check that it works. If it does, install
each update not installed, one by one, and check to see if it breaks
Premier. If it does not, leave it. If it does, remove it.

I sure hope someone here has a better answer than mine. Good luck to your
friend.

Subject: TSGL: I need to know which updates to uninstall!

Hi y'all!

I remember my experience with this. I do. But nothing specific. One of
my friends is using Premiere 6.5 on WinXP Pro SP2. He just rebuilt his
computer, has 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600 video card, ASUS P5KE
motherboard, Pentium Quad chip. He has run all of the updates from
Microsoft (sadly). Yes, everything he owns is legally his. :)

He cannot open the program. Here's his email to me:

/When I start up Premiere, the program window opens and starts
"initializing" for approximately 1.5 seconds before I get the basic
Windows error of (to paraphrase) "this program has suffered an error and
needs to close, would you like to send an error report", etc etc. No
specific error, nothing to guide me in the direction of fixing it. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere at least five times now (I've
lost count). I've tried to load it no fewer than three times each
install just in case it's finicky. I usually restarted after
installation, but not always. (I've tried on a clean boot many times.) I
did a full "typical" install the very first time, then after that I just
did a custom and left out the stuff I didn't need like Quicktime (again)
and the Real Media thing (eww). I only checked the first four boxes of
the 8. (I had the audio filters checked for awhile and kept getting an
error message on install that I thought was the reason the whole thing
would crash. Well, I don't get that error anymore after unchecking the
box, and it's still not fixed.)

/I remember that, a couple of years ago, I had this same issue, and one
of y'all told me that there were specific XP updates that rendered
Premiere 6.5 unstable, and for me to uninstall those specific updates
(which started with a "K," IIRC). I did just that, and everything was
copacetic. Does anyone remember this? Or can you tell me where to look
to find that list of updates?

Thanks in advance,

Luminosity
