TSGL: I need to know which updates to uninstall!

Thank you, Russ. The thing about 6.5 is that it was the most stable
version out there at the time in spite of all of its issues, especially
after the horrifying experiences many of us video editors had with
Premiere 6.0 and 6.01 (the nonlinear editing equivalent of Windows ME
AAUGGHH).
My buddy and I pulled an all-nighter and narrowed it down to a conflict
with Premiere and his NVIDIA drivers, which is laughably ironic, since
the latest GeForce cards are designed for gaming and video. We ended up
un/reinstalling Premiere in safe mode, and it worked, so we went through
his WinXP install, driver by driver, and narrowed it down to that.
However, I do distinctly remember advice from this list (for which I
remain grateful) about NOT getting specific WinXP updates, and
uninstalling specific ones that I did get. Unfortunately, that was at
least one computer rebuild ago, and I lost that email. Is there an
archive I can peruse? I was over at the techguy site last night as well,
reading everything I could find in the forums, and I actually found a
post describing my buddy's issues almost exactly (!) from 2006, but no
answer to it.
On a personal note or two, I've used four different NLE programs in the
decade that I've been editing video, and they're *all* buggy. From Avid
Pro to Ulead, PC or Mac, they all have maddening little quirks and bugs,
but Premiere's seemed the most easily surmountable, usually requiring
simple fixes like freeing up RAM or rolling back drivers or avoiding
updates (e.g., I used to capture analog video using Pinnacle, which was
pretty much designed to dovetail with Premiere, and XP SP2 rendered
their entire DV program useless, so I learned how to work with scripts).
Thank you again for the suggestion.
